North Miami Beach Real Estate North Miami Beach Florida has surged in popularity as people and businesses have begun seeking refuge in the first class North Miami Beach hotels and restaurants to get away from the hustle, bustle and overcrowding of her legendary counterpart - South Miami Beach! Captain William H. Fulford first saw North Miami Beach while patroling the Atlantic during the Spanish-American War. Utilizing the Homestead Act of 1890, he homesteaded a 160 acre grant he received from President Grover Cleveland. In 1917, newspaper owner Lefe Allen and Joshua Flaynolds purchased Captain Fulford's original grant plus additional property with the idea of developing and selling lots. Mr. Allen made plans for a "perfect city" calling for 80 foot residential streets and 100 and 125 foot business thoroughfares. Today, the city's generous street layout remains exactly as the pioneer first envisioned it. In 1927, the area was incorporated as the City of Fulford. However, in 1931 the state legislature authorized a new charter for the city. More beach property was annexed and the name was changed from Fulford to North Miami Beach. From a population of 2,129 in 1938, North Miami Beach is now home to over 40,000 people.
